Located on a 23 perched plot of land on Asiri Uyana off Watthegedara road Maharagama, the House is designed with livability in mind, creating a comfortable and welcoming space in the tropical climate. The design places a strong emphasis on maximizing the use of land and is aptly designed to incorporate natural light and ventilation. To this end, the layout is carefully planned to optimize the space of the land, the rear of the site has been treated as a primary garden space, and a central courtyard serves as an important source of light and ventilation for the house.

Archt. Prasanna Jayalath

I am an associate member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects and a graduate of the University of Moratuwa, where I obtained a B.Sc. in Built Environment, followed by an M.Sc. (Arch). I received professional training under Archt. Ranjith Alahakoon and later worked as an architect at Vinod Jayasinghe Associates. Guided by two of Sri Lanka’s leading architects, I established my independent practice in 2000 and have since completed award-winning projects at local and international levels. My philosophy is grounded in urban design, with a focus on efficient land use through compact planning and the integration of natural and built environments. I emphasize natural light, ventilation, and contextual responsiveness in my work. My professional experience spans private residences, commercial developments, apartments, and hotels. In parallel with practice, I serve as a visiting lecturer at the University of Moratuwa, Colombo School of Architecture, and Kotelawela Defence University.
